An engine on your desktop / GE-032

Run it. Open it. Explore it.

A transparent, borderless Windows application brings the BMW inline-six to your desktop. Orbit, pan and zoom around the assembly, then open it to follow the supplied mechanism.

Rear three-quarter view

Explore the engineering

Six cylinders. One continuous view.

The long cylinder head, six-runner intake and accessory drive give this inline-six its recognizable layout. Orbit the complete engine to compare the intake side, exhaust side and rear connections.

This reconstruction follows the selected 1993 M50B25TU reference: a 2.5-litre, double-overhead-cam, 24-valve engine with intake-only single VANOS. The model keeps its approved stock finishes.

1993 BMW M50B25TU inline-6 educational model — Full exploded assembly
Full exploded assembly

Explore the engineering

Open the assembly. Keep every part its size.

Explode separates the components using positional movement. The right-hand vertical slider adjusts the spacing smoothly, from a close separation to a much wider inspection view.

Switch Explode off to return to the assembled engine. Switch it on again to restore your selected spacing. Component sizes, camera distance and field of view do not change automatically. Use orbit, pan and zoom to explore the expanded assembly. This is an educational breakdown, not a service disassembly sequence.

1993 BMW M50B25TU inline-6 educational model — Cutaway view
Cutaway view

Explore the engineering

Look through the outer castings.

Cutaway opens the designated outer surfaces so you can see more of the mechanism within the complete-engine context. Move the camera to compare the visible internals with the surrounding intake, cooling and accessory components.

The section is a presentation tool. Casting wall thicknesses, internal passages and manufactured interfaces are not dimensionally certified.

Intermediate Internal inspection

Explore the engineering

A clear step between complete and stripped.

The Internal view removes the castings and selected major components while retaining useful surrounding equipment. Follow the camshafts, valve train, chain and lower mechanism without returning to the full exterior.

Inspect cycles through three distinct views: Full, Internal and Drivetrain. Start with the whole engine, expose the internals, then isolate the moving mechanism.

Assembled exhaust-side view

Explore the engineering

Follow the exhaust and front drive.

The side view shows the paired exhaust-manifold groups, valve cover, engine castings, cooling fan, pulleys and accessory equipment. Rotate the engine to compare their placement from the opposite side.

Fan shape and pulley visibility holes include owner-requested educational details. Their appearance is not a claim of exact factory pulley design, structural approval or measured airflow.

The approved stock appearance.

The ribbed valve cover, black intake and contrasting metal surfaces retain their accepted source finishes. There is no color-palette selector on this model.

Click inside the transparent desktop window to reveal its controls. The menu, Explore panel and sliders fade when the pointer moves away, leaving the engine visible on your desktop.

1993 BMW M50B25TU inline-6 educational model — Isolated Drivetrain inspection
Isolated Drivetrain inspection

Explore the engineering

Follow the crankshaft to the camshafts.

The Drivetrain view exposes the crankshaft, connecting rods, six pistons, timing chain, camshafts and valve train. Run the supplied motion or pause at a useful position to inspect their relationships.

Every open starts assembled and running at 100 RPM. The left-hand vertical slider controls 60–2200 RPM presentation speed, with an 850 RPM Idle marker. This animation does not calculate combustion forces, torque or engine output.

Controls and desktop behavior

Click anywhere inside the model window to reveal controls. Left drag places the desktop window; middle drag or arrow keys orbit; right drag pans; wheel or +/− zooms. Shift gives fine keyboard navigation. E: Explode. C: Cutaway. I: Full / Internal / Drivetrain inspection. R: Reset. L: placement lock. Home: Recover. Explore provides camera targets and component identification.

The RPM slider stays on the left, and Explode spacing stays on the right. Explode uses positional separation only. Wider views may require explicit camera navigation. The 60–2200 RPM range controls animation speed; it is not a certified factory operating range. Controls fade when the pointer moves away.

Download, first launch and BMW I6 icon

After checkout, download the ZIP and extract the complete folder to a writable location. Open Wolfgang_GE032_BMW_M50B25TU_RC6.exe. This is the accepted application’s retained filename. Keep its matching .pck and DesktopEngineHost.exe beside it. No Blender or Godot installation is required.

The package includes BMW_I6_M50B25TU.ico and an optional Create Desktop Shortcut.vbs file. After extraction, run the shortcut creator to add the BMW I6 desktop icon. Existing shortcuts are preserved. If Windows Script Host is unavailable, launch the engine directly or create a shortcut manually and select the included icon.

The application sits behind ordinary windows; minimize them to see it. This portable program is unsigned. Contact Wolfgang Engineering if you need launch help; do not disable Windows security. Hardware performance varies, and very small screens can constrain the interface.

Reference identity and educational scope

The selected reference is the 1993 US E36 325is, before September 1993, with the M50B25TU inline-six, DOHC 24-valve head and intake-only single VANOS. The model contains 2,141 independently identifiable mesh components and approximately 1.38 million triangles.

This is an educational reconstruction, not factory CAD, repair instructions, fabrication data or parts-fitment certification. Casting forms, hidden oil/coolant passages, cam/contact profiles, chain paths, VANOS behavior and some mounting datums include qualified approximations. An accepted idle-feed/manifold overlap and some absent accessory details remain in this version. A complete vehicle, radiator, ECU or transmission package is not supplied.

The fan and pulley visibility details include owner-requested changes. The viscous clutch is displayed locked to the pump drive; thermal slip is not simulated. No engine sound, fluid-flow, combustion-force or output simulation is included. Fast motion can show display-sampling aliasing.

All eight photographs are captures of the approved Wolfgang Engineering model in its stock finishes. BMW names identify the subject. Wolfgang Engineering is independent of BMW.
